Adam Fazio - Suffern Little League

As we begin the 2010 baseball season, in addition to welcoming the players, managers, coaches, volunteers, parents, guardians, families & friends, we’re delighted to welcome the girls of Suffern Softball.

I would like to thank Rich Ellsworth, Vice President, for his time and effort for adding a softball division to our league.

The 2009 baseball season finished up with our Senior League boys division being Champions of District 18, Section 2, New York State, and then took 2nd Place in the Eastern Regionals, actually one out and one game away from going to the Senior League World Series. In all the years of Suffern Little League existence, this is the farthest anyone has gone. Manager, Kenny Hayward, Coaches Travis Hayward and Mike Yiannakou did a superior job. Each game became a little tougher but they made the proper adjustments to keep on the winning track. It takes a lot of time and dedication to achieve this, rearranging their work schedules and other everyday occurrences along the way. All the players gave 100% of themselves on and off the field. Once again hard work and dedication paid off and made Suffern proud of them. I want to thank the parents, families and friends that supported them, changing their work schedules and vacation plans just to be there to support the team which is also why they went as far as they did. Special thank you to Ken & Lauren Hayward and Hayward’s Deli for helping supply food, drinks and miscellaneous for the teams journey along the way and for catering the celebration party for the team and families to say thanks for the great memories which will be something that will stay and be part of them forever.

Maintaining Cucolo, Horton, Vilardi, Junior/Senior Field, and Softball Field, is an all year round project. When fall ball season ended, we began re-edging the clay & grass areas, bringing in topsoil, re-seeding areas, taking down the lips all around Cucolo and putting in new sod where needed. The one major project that was just recently completed was on Vilardi field, which included the installation of new and higher fencing for the backstop, along the 3rd base line, left field line, the right field line, and repositioning of 3 sets of bleachers. Thanks to the Suffern DPW & Supervisor Danny Haglund, Suffern Water Department Supervisor Bob Conklin and John Conklin, Orange & Rockland Utilities, especially Neil Winters, Robert Doremus, and Frank Stasi for all their help on making this project a success.

Our fields are always looking for volunteers to help get the fields ready before every game throughout the season and especially after it rains. Water causes many delays for a game so, with the help of people, we can get the game started on time. We also need umpires so, if anyone is interested in being an umpire, please contact any of the board member You don’t have to be a board member, manager or coach to help out, Linda Fazio, Kathleen Brenner, Peter & Jean Crotty, have all helped our league with quality time and effort. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would like to thank all our billboard sponsors that donate annually for helping make Suffern Little League, a better and safer place. A special thanks to all my fellow board members for all their countless hours and dedication in making the season a success. Games are played from April to June but it takes 12 months of volunteer work to keep the league running.

We want to thank the Village of Suffern, Mayor Dagan LaCorte & Village Trustees for their help and support in making Suffern Little League a success.

Good luck to everyone in Suffern Little League and Suffern Softball. Best wishes for a safe and healthy season, have fun and PLAY BALL!
    Adam Fazio
